New HSE Asbestos Resources: Asbestos Management Plan Template and Asbestos Register template

HSE have created two useful templates to help schools remain compliant when they deal with asbestos. They are:

• HSE: Asbestos Management Plan Template; and

• HSE: Asbestos Register Template.

Handsam recommend that our clients should migrate both their asbestos management plan and asbestos register to the HSE templates which can be found in the Handsam Quick Guides Library.

After attending various HSE asbestos inspections of schools and seeing inspectors strongly recommend using their templates and making the point that the documents must be fully ‘living’ i.e. totally up to date at all times, Handsam has decided to retire our template - GM27 Asbestos Management Plan. The HSE templates can be used to note regular checks noted on them, removals or any R&D survey results etc.

Handsam clients please note that the relevant ask in the asbestos category has also been updated and now reads:

Annual: Create an Asbestos Management plan and an Asbestos Register or review and update if already in existence, including checking evidence of any removal or encapsulation of ACMs matches the believed remaining locations of ACMs so that there are no gaps.

Ensure that relevant staff know of the whereabouts of ACMs and that relevant staff know that all contractors must view the register/plan prior to works being undertaken.
